Greetings !

When they call it the "dog days of summer" they certainly are not kidding. July was one of the hottest on record (tied for first I believe) and all in all was just gross. Thankfully, August seems to be giving us a bit of a break in the weather department--at least for now.

I hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July celebration and were able to spend it with family and friends. We were down at the City of Annapolis celebration and hopefully you have had time to check out our photos or our video

And of course going hand in hand with the parades are the politicians and they were out in force; although not quite as bad as last year when someone in the crowd asked me if anyone in Annapolis was NOT running for Mayor.

But politicians are a necessary evil as they represent us and form the laws by which we all must live. Some are trustworthy and worthy of our votes and others, well, let's just say they aren't.

But in any event, we do encourage you to keep an eye on the elections. We will be covering them of course, and there are plenty of other resources for you to make an informed decision in September and November.  We have some political ads on our site (and we will have some more) and we encourage you to click on them and learn about the various candidates. And for those about to ask, they are paid ads and are not an endorsement of any candidate.

Speaking of November, please remember that the "slots issue" is once again on the ballot. Personally, I am in favor of the slots and feel that the location near the Arundel Mills Mall makes a lot of sense in a number of ways. But no matter which side of the fence you are on, please make sure you get out in November and cast your vote. And be sure to understand the question--it is in legalese. Slots have been authorized in Anne Arundel County. This question is to decide if the County Council's zoning law allowing them near the mall and at the Laurel track will stand.

July not only broke heat records, it broke some traffic records for us. We had nearly 30,000 unique visitors come to our site and view nearly 100,000 pages. August is off to a good start already with more than 13,000 unique visitors and nearly 12,000 unique pageviews. Also, sometime on August 5th, we crossed the quarter million mark in visitors. Thank you!

But we are still very small and growing and need your help.  No, I am not begging for donations like another site (but hey a clicking on a google ad every now and then wouldn't hurt), but asking you to keep your eyes and ears  open for us. If you see something happening in your neighborhood, hear of a great community event, have an opinion on something in the news, snapped a funny or serious photo...you get the idea. Please send your information to us and we will publish it--with attribution or without, it's your call.

Well, enough babbling. Please check out the offers from our local businesses and have a wonderful end to summer. We will be checking back in in early September after the kids are back in school.

Once again--we're glad you are here!

All the best,

John W. Frenaye, Jr
