Hello !

Thank You!

Earlier this month, we were nominated for a Mobbie Award. These are awards run by our friends at the Baltimore Sun to recognize some of the most influential players in the social media realm--blogs, facebook, twitter, tumbler, etc.  We were honored to be nominated in several categories--Best News Blog, Best Anne Arundel County Blog, Best Twitter Feed, and Best Facebook Fan Page.

The competition was stiff and we placed well in all of the standings, but actually came out on top for the Best Anne Arundel County Blog! THANK YOU!

Since The Sun is not rolling in cash, there are no gold statues, thousand dollar swag bags, or red carpet events, but we will receive a banner ad on the Baltimore Sun website and a certificate for the honor. Thank you all again for your votes!

Here is a teaser for you.  On Monday, I plan to send a special email out announcing a limited time program for our readers. I can't release the details, but if you like to dine out at some local places like Fado, McCormick & Schmicks, Tsunami, Metropolitan, Rockfish, Mexican Cafe, Federal House...you get the idea. We will be able to save you a LOT of money. Stay tuned. This will also be announced on the site, on Facebook, and on Twitter!  I think you will like it!

Now, I Need Your Help

Every day we try to improve the site, facebook page, and twitter feeds. So far we think we are doing a good job, but one can never rest on their laurels.

Each year we do a survey of our readers to take the pulse of our performance. And since you are a subscriber, and one of the most engaged readers, your opinion ins paramount.  I promise this is painless and will take less than three minutes to complete, but your opinions are invaluable! Please click on the link above, or the image below and let us know how we are doing and how we can do it better.

Hot Topics!

Our readership continues to grow and over the past three months, we have seen an average of 60,000 unique people reading the site!  So, what were they reading? Here are the top five since the last time we spoke!
  1. Double Homicide At Arundel Mills
  2. Attempted Abduction Of Teen In Severna Park
  3. Another Shooting In Glen Burnie
  4. Capital Columnist Charged With Theft
  5. Local Man Scams Schools: Promises Ravens Players, Does Not Deliver
Have you checked out our new blog called Chowin' Down. We are sending undercover "critics" to restaurants and bars for honest reviews. We are not going to sugar coat it like the local paper or cater to advertisers like the local city magazine. The columns are a recap of of the experience by regular people who happened to be out eating on their own dime! Good, bad, or indifferent. If you are interested in being a critic, shoot me an email.

    Local Flavors!

On the local biz front, we have gained some more sponsors this month. These guys help us pay the bills and help make our County such a special one. Please support local businesses when possible. I encourage you to check these supporters out--give their ads a click and see what it happening in your local community!

Wild Willy's is hosting a fantastic pre-Thanksgiving party featuring local (Crofton) artist Dave Teiff. Wild Willysis on Somerville Road across from the Annapolis Towne Centre and features one of the largest televisions on the East Coast along with nightly entertainment and fabulous food. If you are in the mood for a fun night out or a great place to watch the games--head on over to Wild Willy's.

Docs Talk is, well, the talk of the town. The Anne Arundel Medical Center is once again on the cutting edge. The hospital has launched a monthly television program loosely based on the popular Dr. Oz show, where a live studio audience will sit in, ask questions, and learn about various medical issues from our own experts and a doctor/host. October featured breast cancer and tonight's show will be about living with chronic pain. It is free and takes place at 6pm on the 7th floor of the Health Sciences Pavilion. Parking is also free!

Chesapeake Bay Trust. You see them all around--the cool license plates depicting the Chesapeake Bay. Why not ditch the boring white plate and do a little bit to help save our most important resource. When you renew your registration, help clean up the Bay--and after the storms we had--the Bay needs some cleaning up!

Rams Head On Stage. They have been around for more than 20 years. That is quite a run in Annapolis and it is no wonder. Rams Head On Stage is known for bringing world class music to our back door. Check out the schedule and I am sure you will find a favorite--old or new! And to be honest, the venue is one of the best--small, intimate and some awesome acoustics!

Easy Skinny Life is a new website devoted to the healthy lifestyle, including exercise and food. Solid actionable tips on how to maintain your health from a woman who has been doing it all her life!

Zachary's Jewelers. There is not much that can be said about Zachary's that has not been said before. They are a staple of the Downtown Annapolis scene and now in Severna Park. They are the model for a community involved business. And, they have free monthly kid events on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in addition to their fabulous baubles.

Sonic of Edgewater is coming. Really it is. The building frame is up and the walls are going in. The last report I heard was that an early December opening was the target! Have you been? I know my kids are looking forward to it!

Bayside Bride is an awesome new project by local photographer Natalie Franke. This is a one stop resource for any wedding related information in the Chesapeake Bay area. Photographers, venues, caterers, transportation, planners, preparations, clothing, gifts, and more! If you are getting married in the Chesapeake Bay region, Bayside Bride is the one site that must be bookmarked.

Homestead Gardens is gearing up for the Holidays. The Grand Illumination will be this Saturday at 6pm. Come on out and take 25% off of lights (so you can have a Griswald Christmas) and enjoy the spectacle of Homestead Gardens lighting up for the holidays!

Please take a moment and check out our sponsors and advertisers. Give their ad (on the right) or the link (above) a click and explore what they have to offer! You won't be disappointed!

PPS--have you noticed that we have been making subtle changes to the site? This month, it is pink (well as close as I can get with my limited HTML knowledge) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For football games and holidays and events we will swap out the logo with a google-ish doodle--next up Turkey Day!  What do you think?

PPPS--how many of these can you have? If you know of a business that might be interested in advertising, please let them know. Prices will go up in January and anything committed before then will be under the current rates!
