Hello !

What Does Ellen Moyer Have To Say?

Josh Cohen has been Mayor for over 2 years and former Mayor Ellen Moyer has been relatively silent. No more!Former Mayor Moyer and former City Attorney Steve Kling have a radio program on 1430 WNAV and they have agreed to do a show with Eye On Annapolis.

Our newsletter subscribers will have a chance to ask the lingering questions of the former Mayor and her chief legal consultant. What type of legacy did she leave behind? Is she being unfairly thrown under the bus? What about that "financial train wreck"? What is in the cards for a political future for Ellen Moyer? The agenda is up to you. For details on the show and how to participate, please read this members only post.

Around Town

There are not one, not two, but THREE fantastic events coming up in the next two weeks!  The first is the First Annual Harvest Beer Festival, and the second is the Annual Home Show.

The Harvest Beer Festival (you can read about it here) is being held at Homestead Gardens on Saturday, September 17th from 2pm to 6pm and will feature more than 50 beers from 15 brewers including "living beer." The event is also a fundraiser for the Scenic Rivers Land Trust which does a lot to preserve our beautiful Maryland waterways. If that is not enough, there will be sessions with brewers, and fabulous entertainment by Rob Levit and his quartet (who I am looking forward to FINALLY meeting in person). And as an Eye On Annapolis reader, we can offer you a $5 discount. When you buy your tickets online, use the promotional code EYE and the $5 will be reflected at checkout!

On September 18th from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, the Schooner Woodwind will be hosting a Pirates Dinner Cruise in celebration of Talk Like A Pirate Day. The cruise (and to be honest even if you are a sailor and live here, you need to check this out) will include all sorts of pirate themed drinks and food including a Buccaneer Blueberry Rum Glazed Pork Loin! Three drink coupons for rum (naturally) or other drinks are included as well. You can see more details and purchase tickets on the Woodwind's website. Space is limited, so get them now--how often are you able to be served a dinner while sailing in the Chesapeake Bay?

Finally, the weekend of September 24th and 25th, the annual Annapolis Home Show rolls into town at the Armory! In addition to fantastic vendors, ideas, and deals, this year, HGTV Design Star Judge, Vern Yip will be presenting two interior design seminars on Saturday. The Expo will run on Saturday September 24th from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm and will showcase products and services to help homeowners get the most out of their most important investment.

Hot Topics!

People are always asking what are the "hottest" stories we publish. Certainly weather events top the list. Unfortunately, tragedies also rank up there as well. This month offered no real surprises, but here were the top 4 stories from the past 30 days!

  1. Hurricane Irene
  2. Route 2 Traffic Ramp Collapse
  3. Escaped Prisoner
  4. Eastport MurderEarthquake

Be sure to check out many of the reader submitted photos for the Hurriane Irene post. Speaking of photos, we do have some galleries posted from the recent Baltimore Grand Prix from Armin DeFiesta and Joe Messenger, the Virgin Mobile Festival from Kevin Carroll, and the home opener of Navy Football.  And speaking of Navy Football, you can use the code ANNAPOLIS to get $35 tickets for $15 to the remaining home games except Air Force. Here is the link to purchase. Another way we are saying "thank you."

And finally, we debuted a new blog called Chowin' Down. Eye On Annapolis is sending undercover "critics" to restaurants and bars for honest reviews. We are not going to sugar coat it like the local paper or cater to advertisers like another local magazine. The columns are a recap of of the experience by regular people who happened to be out eating on their own dime! Good, bad, or indifferent. If you are interested in being a critic, shoot me an email. To date, we have reviewed the Mexican Cafe andNova Sushi Bar& Asian Fusion!

Local Flavors!

On the local biz front, we have a few more sponsors this month. These guys help us pay the bills and help make our County such a special one. Please support local businesses when possible. The Schooner Woodwind has some amazing special events coming up including a beer match race and a farm to table dinner cruise. It is not just for tourists!

Bill Bateman's Bistro has recently opened in Edgewater and is a welcome addition to the area dining scene. Known for their fantastic wings, the rest of the menu is just as good. They are located at 121 Mitchell's Chance Lane (behind the K-Mart) in Edgewater. Other county locations include Severna Park, Glen Burnie and BWI. Visit the Edgewater location's facebook page for some fun!
