Eye On Annapolis
And summer is gone like that...

Where did the summer go? It seems just yesterday that we were talking about Eastport A Rockin, the Annapolis Irish Festival, and Silopanna, but now those events are little more than fantastic memories of the summer of 2012.

But all is not lost!  This Sunday is the 1st Annual Puppy Plunge at Camp Letts to benefit the Anne Arundel County SPCA. Admission is only $5 and after a tour of the SPCA, every dollar helps!  They are 100% funded by donations--nada from the State, City, or County!

Looking to the 25th and 26th is the first Kegs & Corks Beer and Wine Festival being held at Blob's Park in Jessup. We are a presenting sponsor of this event and hope that you can make it out one of the days and enjoy some entertainment, food, and of course Maryland craft beers, international beers, and Maryland wines!  Tickets are $25 but will be $30 at the gate!

If you have not noticed, we've been busy. We now have a relationship with 103.1 WRNR radio. Each Friday, we are on the air with Alex Cortright talking about the places to be for the upcoming week.

If you are on Twitter, we will have a big announcement in the net month or two. A project has been in development for some time and it is almost complete--stay tuned!

And to support that project, we will be moving servers by the end of the month. We used to be hosted on a shared server and just grew too big. So, we now have a big, shiny new one in Kansas that is being configured as we speak! And if you are in the market for anything technical, I cannot recommend Meridian Design Group  enough. Capable, responsive, thorough, affordable and local.

A Pit Bull Controversy

It seems everyone is up in arms about the not-so-recent ruling by Maryland's Court of Appeals declaring Pit Bulls inherently dangerous.  We have highlighted several Pit Bull stories over the past few years and want to hear from you.

I went out on a limb and put my opinion out there--please take a read and let me know what you think.  I think there may be some middle ground in due time!
Who Is Influential?

-- you are familiar with Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.  Back in December we asked our readers who they felt was influential in the area and we developed a great list. The article is almost ready to be published, but we need to check the names once more to see if they are still good.

When you think of influential, there are certain "givens". I might suggest Martin O'Malley is influential. But there are plenty of others in the area--attorneys, business people, advocates, curmudgeons, and more!

Who do you think is influential? Please read this and leave a comment--they can be anonymous!

Our Sponsors
We are so appreciative of our sponsors. Of course we solicit advertisers and often we are approached by companies and organizations to help spread their message. What you may not know is that we are very particular and we do not accept advertising from just anyone.  We truly support local businesses and believe that they are the core of a vibrant economy. We also believe that these advertisers are the cream of the crop (of course they have exquisite taste in advertising as well) and encourage you to support them, click their ads and check them out.

HOMESTEAD GARDENS--Homestead is one of the most community oriented businesses you will find. In addition to their business, they support the local Boy Scouts, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and much more!

ZACHARY'S JEWELERS--A staple of Main Street for decades and more recently Severna Park. When they suffered a fire, the community came together for them. And they have been giving back ever since.

RAMS HEAD ON STAGE--From a small bar to a multi location entertainment conglomerate, Rams Head offers it all. Fine food and the best entertainment in the area. They brought a wildly successful Silopanna Music Festival to the area in August and consistently feature top talent!

THE CITY OF ANNAPOLIS--Yes, despite our editorial criticism at times, they are sponsoring us with their Circulator Trolley initiative. If you are unaware of the FREE trolley, you owe it to yourself to check it out (click the ad). Discounted parking at Knighton or Park Place and a free ride around town--soon to come to Eastport and West Annapolis!

CHESAPEAKE BAY TRUST--They are smaller than the "other" organization, but have no problem getting their boots dirty and really making a difference in the health of the bay.

FLOYD'S BARBERSHOP--OK, so they are a national chain of uber cool barber shops. But did you know they had their start in Bowie? Yes, three brothers developed the concept and ran with it. Now they are well represented here in the County with stores in Annapolis and Crofton.

SONIC--Also a national chain, but owned by a Davidsonville resident. Sonic was long awaited and from the looks at the lines, much appreciated. As summer wanes, we will have some more hot days and nothing cools you off like a Sonic slush. I forget the number, but with the different flavors, you can mix up more than a hundred different varieties!

SCHOONER WOODWIND--Annapolis is a sailing town and there is no better way to see it than from the water on the deck of one of the Woodwinds. If you own your own boat, it's better--no work! The Woodwinds offer specialty sails, group sails, and a romantic boat and breakfast package. Check it out!

MIDDLETON TAVERN, OBRIEN'S OYSTER BAR, OB's PRIME, AND ANNAPOLIS UNPLUGGED--These are the quintessential Annapolis dining establishments run by the the Hardestys who have been in Annapolis for generations. Annapolis Unpplugged is a series of very local (and upcoming) live music brought into their restaurants--often coupled with a WRNR event! The food is consistently great as is the service.

WELLNESS HOUSE-- If cancer has ever touched you, a loved one, or a friend, please learn more about  this non-medical care facility for cancer patients and their families.

PIPPY PICTURES--Big smiles, beaming faces--these are two of the hallmarks of Lisa Dierolf and Pippy Pictures. From family portraits to casual shots to weddings and special moments, Lisa has the perfect eye. Check out her portfolio and click the ad!

HARVEST BEER FESTIVAL-- The annual Harvest Beer Festival is coming on September 15th and will feature brewer talks, local craft beers, and of course all of the fall finery at Homestead Gardens! This year, the event will benefit the Chesapeake Bay Trust!  Come on out for a fun day!

INTEGRITY WOOD FURNISHINGS-- Unique, custom, and unusual are three words that typically describe what John Kraft from Integrity Wood Furnishings does. He takes little pieces of wood and fashions them into larger masterpieces brimming with color. One hangs over my fireplace right now!

103.1 WRNR--We love WRNR. It is our local awesome music station who is always partnering to sponsor events in town. We love them even more because they allow us to come on the air on Fridays and talk about what is happening in the area!  And re really love that they have the technology to make us sound a little less Fran Drescher-esque! Give them a listen, they are a perfect match!
The End!
