Did you know that Annapolis has an opera? Founded in 1972, the Annapolis Opera is one of Maryland's premiere professional opera companies.

Here are 3 things you may not know about it:

  1. Annapolis Opera auditions performers from throughout the U.S. to assemble casts of world class singers for its productions here in Annapolis. Many of their performers have gone on to sing at the Met in New York and London's Covent Garden.
  2. All Annapolis Opera performances include supertitles in English (just like subtitles, only they're project OVER the stage), so you always understand what's going on even if the singing is in a different language.
  3. You don't have to come dressed in black tie when you attend an Annapolis Opera performance - just where whatever you would for any other Maryland Hall performance.

Learn why the actor Michael Douglas says that people who claim to hate the opera "never went."

Give Opera a try this Saturday, October 27th when the Annapolis Opera performs Giuseppe Verdi's "Aida " at Maryland Hall, with music by the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and accompanied by the famous Morgan State Choir (it's like a 3-for-1 deal!). This is a one night only performance, so get your tickets now before the show is sold out!

Once you've got your tickets, plan to make it a complete night out. The Opera has arranged to have eCruisers at Maryland Hall on the night of the performance starting at 6 pm, so you can park there and then eCruise downtown (and back!) for dinner before the performance.

Thank You!

OK, I will admit it. I vaguely recall their being an opera in Annapolis. And I vaguely recall fighting tooth and nail to avoid seeing one in high school. But I also vividly recall enjoying the performance when I did go!  So, count me in!

I did check with the powers that be and the dress code is not black (or white) tie--they told me I would be fine in a pair of khakis and a button down shirt!

With free parking at Maryland Hall and the free eCruisers, this sounds like a perfect night out!

All my best-
Sig
