The Polar Bear Plunge (Take 2) Is Coming! Can You Help?

Published: Tue, 02/25/14

Hi

As you all know, the Annual Polar Bear Plunge was postponed back in January when horrible weather turned the Chesapeake Bay into an icy slush!  While the decision to cancel (and re-schedule) was difficult and costly, it was indeed the right decision as the safety of plungers and their supporters is critical--and one serious injury likely would have ended this incredibly fun and worthwhile event forever.  With that said, #PlungeOn!

The plunge has been rescheduled for March 8th with 3 plunges at noon, 1pm and 2pm. There will be a family/peewee plunge at 11am.  The rescheduled event will be downscaled and will not have the entertainment, vendors, and activities--it will be plunge focused. But the need is still as great as ever and I encourage you to re-energize your friends to support Special Olympics Maryland.

If you are plunging (or had planned to, but can't make the rescheduled date), please send out another appeal or two for pledges using the tools available on the website.

If you want to plunge, it is not too late to register.

If you aren't interested in plunging--how about a small contribution of $5 or $10 to help support the athletes and their programs that run all year long?

Raise a minimum of $75 and get a limited edition Plunge sweatshirt.  There is more swag the more you raise.

Bring a buddy

If you sign up and recruit someone to come Plunge with you on March 8th, 2014 and they register and raise the minimum $75.00 by February 26th, 2014 we will put you in a drawing for Downtown Baltimore prize package which includes:

  • One night stay at the Embassy Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor (222 St. Paul Place, Baltimore, MD 21202) Expires December 31, 2014
  • Dinner for two at the Rusty Scupper

*Make sure the friend that you recruit enters your name in the referred by field in order to be entered for the hotel/dinner.

So what are you waiting for? For every friend you recruit and they meet the conditions listed above you will get one entry in the drawing. So recruit as many people as you can and increase your chances for the prize package.

Thanks for bearing with us as we move towards the second coming of Plunge. We are glad that we will be able to get to see each other finally for the double take of the 18th Annual MSP Polar Bear Plunge on March 8th, 2014.

Fundraising is so easy I can do it with one hand....and a fork

Get your family and friends together for dinner at the Killarney House to support Special Olympics Maryland! On Tuesday February 25th from 5pm-9pm (yes, that's tonight) the Killarney House will offer a special menu with a portion of the proceeds going to the 18th Annual Polar Bear Plunge, benefitting the 6,500 athletes involved with Special Olympics Maryland.

Killarney House, 584 W Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035,

Plunge Parking

When you do come out you will want to know about Satellite Parking: (THIS IS IMPORTANT)

There are only two area of Satellite parking for the Plunge on March 8th 2014. They are at the Naval Academy Stadium and Kent Island High School. There will be shuttles to take you to Sandy Point State Park from those two locations only.  DO NOT GO TO ANY OTHER LOTS.

Don't want to take the shuttle?

If you raise an additional $25 by March 1st you will be entered into a drawing to receive a Parking Pass for the new Pink Lot at the Park that is available for only the March 8th Plunge. The new Pink lot is the closest lot to all Plunge Day activities.

See you there and #PlungeOn

PS: Eye On Annapolis will be there covering the event (and cheering on my daughter in her 4th plunge) and I hope to see you there! If you are feeling generous--here is a direct link to my daughter's page for her fundraising efforts!
