If you love musical theater, then there is a real treat in store for you this weekend here in Annapolis ! Annapolis Opera (yes, Annapolis has an opera!) will perform La Boheme, arguably the most popular opera of all time, at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, March 14 at 8 pm and Sunday, March
16 at 3 pm. This is a great opportunity for opera lovers to revisit an old favorite, and for opera newbies to see what this art form is all about.
You may already be familiar with the story, because it served as the inspiration for the Broadway play Rent. It is the timeless story of a shy seamstress and a passionate poet who chance upon each other on a snowy evening in turn of the century Paris, and is full of romance, drama, and passion -
along with tragedy too (it is an opera, after all!) - as well as some of the most beautiful operatic arias of all time.
Tickets start at just $65, but you better act fast, because there are less than 200 tickets left and a good chance that both performances will sell out!
Here are few things you might not know about Annapolis Opera:
- All of the performers are professional opera singers who audition for their roles and travel here from throughout the country (and sometimes the world!) just for these performances
- Although they will sing in Italian, there are supertitles projected over the stage (just like a subtitle, only ABOVE rather than BELOW) so you will always know what's
going on
- You do NOT have to wear a ball gown or tux to the opera - just dress like you would for a nice dinner out
- Make sure to arrive on time for the performance because once the doors closed, you won't be let in until intermission
- Maryland Hall
now serves beer and wine before performances and during intermission, so bring some extra money and enjoy the cash bar!
