Happy New Year!

Every year, everyone makes promises to themselves to somehow improve themselves. Resolutions.


Last year, I resolved to lose a lot of weight and I did.  This year, I am still weighing my options.


Sticking to resolutions can be hard. I know!

According to USA.gov, quitting smoking is the 3rd most common resolution behind the weight thing and volunteering. 


But no one needs to do it alone. And if you are a smoker (or know of one), there is help too!


The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has put together a free (yes, FREE) stop smoking kit and you can get it here...or by clicking the links over on the right!


A New Year is always a good place to start for a new beginning. If you are a smoker who is trying to quit or know someone that is, please check it out or pass it along!

There are many reasons to quit. You already know them, but let’s review again...
THE BAD NEWS
  • Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body and causes cancer and coronary heart disease.
  • Health effects from smoking are responsible for nearly one in five deaths in the U.S. each year.
  • Secondhand smoke is dangerous to everyone—especially children, infants and unborn babies, because their bodies and lungs aren’t fully developed. 
  • It can make allergies and asthma worse, and can cause heart attacks and cancer—even for people who do not smoke. 
  • Secondhand smoke increases a child’s risk of death from SIDS, ear infections, lung infections and risk of becoming a smoker.
  • Secondhand smoke increases a pregnant woman’s risk of having a low-birth-weight baby.
  • Smoking increases or raises the risk of many other diseases.

THE GOOD NEWS

  • You will FEEL BETTER and be able to do so much more.
  • You will cough less and experience less shortness of breath.
  • You will have a healthier body.
  • You will set a good example for others—especially children.
  • You will save money.
  • You will be in control of your life.
  • You will no longer feel embarrassed about being a smoker.
