The better answer is who wasn't celebrating this St. Paddy's Day.
According to BeerBoard, sales of ALL beers were up 22%. Now keep in mind that last year, St. Paddy's was on a Thursday and this year it was on a Friday...so it is probably more of a calendar boost than an increase in people drinking!
But what WERE they drinking? The top spot--no surprise were the light beers like Bud Light. Number two were the American Lagers like, well...Budweiser. But reeling in the number 3 spot with a 323% increase in sales were the stouts--can you say Guinness? Typically stouts rank in the #6 to #8 position. Perhaps this may be a response to Guinness plans to open a brewery and storehouse in our back yard?
Interesting to note is that the light beer and American lagers were all down between 3% and 5%, so it seems like the crafts are still holding strong!
