12 Locally Produced Podcasts That You Need To Know

Published: Wed, 09/20/17

Hi

Have you discovered the power of podcasts yet?

It’s easier than ever to find, subscribe and listen to literally thousands of podcasts on every topic from news, arts, business, comedy, education, politics, sports, technology, music, health, spirituality, hobbies, and more.

Podcasts are free (with very few exceptions). Podcasters create content and publish their episodes on popular platforms like iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher as well as a variety of other podcasting directories and apps.

There are several excellent apps you can use to subscribe to podcasts you like and sync the content across your platforms (phones, iPad, desktop).

I prefer the built in Podcast app on my iPhone. It’s easy to use and familiar as it’s part of iTunes. If you use an iPhone and haven’t opened this app yet – give it a try and start exploring!  I listen to them while I am exercising at the Pip Moyer Rec Center, while driving (bluetooth is wonderful), working in the yard, or just at my desk while working. And the beauty of it is you can subscribe and they come right to your electronic device of choice! And then, listen to them when you get a chance...in whole, or in part. Or even skip an episode that may not interest you. Totally on-demand!

To give you a start, here are a bunch of local podcasts to which I subscribe. Click on the image (or the "Read More" link and go right to their website to learn more, subscriber, listen to a few other episodes, etc.

Disclaimer: the first two are mine...and it is self-serving, but yeah..give then a listen--they're both good--The Maryland Crabs launched in September 2016, and he Daily News Brief launched September 1st. My mom even said they were great.  She can't be wrong...right?

Happy Listening!

PAPA'S BASEMENT
Papa's Basement
Papa’s Basement was originally built as a dumping ground for the mp3s of my radio show Papa’s Basement. After a friend of mine said that the site looked like crap, was impossible to navigate and that I’d die broke and alone, I decided to add blogs and pictures to spite her.

Now the site houses not only the show but my comedy writing, which I’m putting out there in the spirit of Field of Dreams‘ line “If you build it, they will come (and pay you to write these jokes).” What are the odds of this site landing a writing job that will pay my bills and make me feel happy and fully realized? Zero. But as long as I write a few times a week, Mother has promised to neither kick me out nor touch my allowance, and that’s good enough for me.
