Formed by the Frazier brothers, Phil and Keith, along with Basin Street labelmate Kermit Ruffins in 1983, The Rebirth Brass Band has gone from playing on corners in the French Quarter to selling out concert halls across the world and

Over the course of his acclaimed career, Ritter has released seven full-length albums including, 2013’s The Beast In Its Tracks, which debuted at #22 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the Top Rock Albums chart. The record also received widespread critical praise—NPR Music called it, “…gorgeous and
glorious,” while Pitchfork asserted, “Beast is contemplative and forgiving, a means of burying one relationship to commit to another, and Ritter nicely evokes the excitement and resignation of such a transition.”

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe
December 5
|
|
|
Karl Denson's Tiny Universe is gearing up for its biggest year yet in 2019. In February, the band releases its first new studio album in over five years entitled 'Gnomes & Badgers.’ Highly regarded as one of the best live acts on the planet, the new recording distills the sweeping stylistic range of KDTU's concert performances into its own authentic sound.
Masterfully incorporating elements of vintage rock, old school soul and classic funk, the inimitable saxophonist/flutist/vocalist Karl Denson and his long-standing six piece unit that includes guitarist DJ Williams, drummer Zak Najor, bassist Chris Stillwell, keyboardist David Veith, trumpeter Chris Littlefield and slide/lap steel guitarist Seth Freeman, have delivered what is undoubtedly their strongest work yet.
As always, KDTU will hit the road hard with plans to visit all corners of the U.S. on a national tour supporting ‘Gnomes & Badgers.’ Along with KDTU, Denson—who the Austin Chronicle declared "embodies modern honk”—currently serves as the touring saxophonist with The Rolling Stones, while continuing to hold down his role as a founding member of the seminal funk band, The Greyboy Allstars.

Lissie | December 15
Presented by 103.1 WRNR
ALL AGES SHOW - 1:00PM
|
|
|
Lissie grew up in Rock Island, Illinois, near the Mississippi River, speaking her mind and writing songs from an early age. She will release her fourth studio album Castles on March 23. The new music follows the release of her 2016 album My Wild West, which received widespread critical praise.
Written predominantly from Lissie’s new home in Northeast Iowa, Castles represents a spiritual as well as musical development. It’s a portrait of an artist who has always been on the move and is finally creating a sense of permanency—a chance to catch her breath and reflect.
Lissie’s album My Wild West—the follow up to Catching a Tiger (2010) and Back to Forever (2013)—peaked at #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and Top 10 on the Independent Album chart. Lissie also appeared in the most recent season of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks with NME saying of her “intense” performance:
“Closing the episode with the Stevie Nicks-esque ‘Wild West,’ Rock Island’s most exciting troubadour more than earned her Lynch-commissioned screen time.”

Jimmie's Chicken Shack
December 26
|
|
|
Jimmie's Chicken Shack emerged through MTV as one of the first post-grunge bands of the era. Blending funk-metal with elements of ska and reggae but also a surprising acoustic prowess. Lead vocalist Jimmy HaHa grew up in Maryland and played with a group named Ten Times Big for several years.
After the band broke up, he hit the snowboarding circuit for two years but then began several acoustic jams with friends. HaHa recruited drummer Jim Chaney (from Ten Times Big), longtime friend Che' Lemon on bass, and guitarist Dave Dowling (aka Double D) to form Jimmie's Chicken Shack. Based in Annapolis,
MD, the group formed their own Fowl Records and released Give Something Back.
After selling tens of thousands of records around the Baltimore area, Jimmie's Chicken Shack signed to Elton John's Rocket Records and released their major-label debut, Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope. Still involved with their own label, however, the group also released The Original Recipe, a collection of
early recordings, followed in 1999 by Bring Your Own Stereo. A five-year wait preceded the release of Re.present in 2004.
