As I write this email reflecting on the past year, I think of all the changes that have happened.
The County Health Department was one of those "forgotten" departments, I used to get my exercise in a gym, and I would never think to walk into Severn Bank with a mask. I loved shaking hands and saying hello, and now we cross streets to avoid one another. At the risk of sounding like an old codger, I miss the old days!
While this year showed the worst of humanity in so many ways, more so, it showed the best, and that's what I want you to remember. Our first responders. The nurses and doctors on the front lines across the world. The scientists who stayed up night after night, finding a vaccine. Our neighbors who went shopping for others. Those of us who stayed away from their parents so they'd stay healthy and safe. And everyone that helped those less
fortunate, and continue to do so, every single day. And to all of us who, overnight, had our entire lives upended, yet somehow managed to come out the other side.
As we move into 2020, I wish you all good health, peace, and a wonderful (yet different) holiday. Stay the course and 2020 will be a blip in our rear-view mirror before we know it!
